It is January and after this extremely long Holiday period and all the fun with family and friends it can feel just a little sad to be going back to work with Spring still a few months away. 

 Luckily the winter weather has held off and it is not too cold and wet but still, we all need to brighten up the next couple of months. 

 One way to do so is to bring the sunshine to ones kitchen and dining room. 

 Coulourful handmade and decorated ceramics can do the trick. In the French Provence and in Spain they have these fantastic and cheery ceramics in the form of  mugs which are superb for hot chocolate or a good cup of Earl Grey. Or go French and serve yourself a caf au lait in one of the fantastic large French cups beautifully designed, all handmade and decorated by family potteries, with love and care.

 Another idea is making a hot dessert such as a fruit crumble (always add rhubarb and lots of berries 5 a day!) served in one of the handmade ovenproof dishes, best made in the Provence. They come shallow and square or oval or deep and round and just look fantastic taking the hot crumble out of the oven and placing them onto the dinner table with the dessert still steaming. Add some vanilla ice cream, single cream or clotted cream in another ceramic handmade dish, a gravy boat and it surely will be a success all around and relieve the winter blues.

 To finish it off serve coffee in a handmade ceramic French coffee cup, ideal for espresso and having a sugar bowl with lid in the same or similar design will add to the aesthetic pleasure.

 To make a long story short we can fight the January blues by adding colour and lovely handmade and painted, ceramic household dishes to our lives which will brighten up our kitchen, dining room and home with elegant yet practical earthenware. 

 To finish things off, buy yourself a beautiful orchid and plant it in an utensil holder that is tall enough to display the gorgeous flower another example that all things ceramic are made for many purposes. Or get a big bunch of flowers and put it in a colourful water jug from Spain or a delicately designed vase from the Provence.

 Lets fight the January Blues with some wonderfully cheerful Mediterranean colours!
